Is this normal for a hemeplegic migraines?
I get full body paralysis, I know most people just get the left side , but I dont. my heart races and I need to be on oxygen. I feel as if I am having a a stroke, which I do know that these are stroke type migraines and you never know if it is one or not. Sometimes I get the pain shooting down my left arm. I get dizziness, My blodd pressure sky rockets.
I am allergic to all triptans and we found that out the hard way back in 2003. Cause I had been suffering from migraines since Jan 2001 and that is when I came to Norfolk, VA because of the Military.
I am not in the military anymore because of the migraines. They used to be just reoccurant migraines without an aura and then just on August 7 2008 was when I had my first episode of a hemeplegic migraine ( I still don't have any auras with them) and I started seeing a neurologist again and since then thats how all my migraines have been, all stroke like symptoms.
It gets pretty scary cause I'm gonna be turning 30 next month. I wear a medical ID bracelet now stating that I have hemeplegic migraines and my allergies are to triptans and for them to see med card for further information. I have had cat scans, MRI, MRA, EKG, EEG, EcoCardiograms, have even seen a cardiologist too because my mother had passed away back in 2005 because she had a brain anurisn(sp) and early stages of heart desease and druing one of my testings I had a RBBB pop up. The cardiologist said that the RBBB is nothing for me to worry about and it is gonna be there on and off, but my heart is healthy and good, infat all of the testings that I have had are great.
They can't find anything, so they don't know why I am having these problems. I exercise I watch my diet. and I just don't know what to do anymore. If there is anything that you can suggest, I would be most greatful. Sincerely, Sabrina
Sabrina,
Your symptoms sound extreme, and not all of them are what we think of as "typical."
Triptans and ergotamines such as DHE and Migranal are not recommended for hemiplegic Migraine. Have you tried Midrin as an abortive?
The best suggestion we can offer is that you get care from an acutal Migraine specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
