Marie,

What you've decribed could be either stroke OR Migraine. It could take some additional testing to be sure. An MRA and MRV to check the blood vessels couldn't hurt, but I don't know that they're necessary. Has the doctor who has treated you for Migraines over the years been consulted for his opinion? If not, I suggest doing so.

If your Migraine doctor isn't sure, consider consulting a Migrainne specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Good luck,

Teri

I'm not sure what your symptoms equate out to, but I know that I have numerous mini strokes that are directly related to my migraines. I think it is sometimes hard to look at a set of symptoms and really understand what the true issue causing the symptoms.

If you are not satisfied with your current doctor,  it may provide answers you are looking for. And if you are not satisfied with the reasoning for their diagnosis, then, by all means get a third opinion.

We forget that the doctors are 'hired' by us and need to work with us, as a team, trying to accomplish a treatment plan that works for you.

( I was just reminded of this, myself  Surprised)

Marie,

You need to see a doc who can differentiate your symptoms from a true stroke.  The symptoms of a migraine with aura mimics stroke symptoms with distinct differences.  You can have neurological symptoms as word searching and a period of confusion which should resolve itself without 2 hours.  It is pretty tough to make a good diagnosis and requirers several specialties, such neuro opthalmology, neurology an cardiology.

My best of luck to you.  I know how frightening this is, believe me.  I had my first episode in 1987 and nothing for years but an isolated scotoma.  Now I am having episodes every 2 to 3 weeks that are very depressing.  I have copied several pieces of research and my next appointment is with cardiology.  I find it difficult to deal with this at time.  Take care.
