Q: migraines and work smell issues

I have had migraines for over 20 yrs and am currently looking for a job, my problem is that I have been on a couple interviews and by the time I left the interview, I had full blown migraine. The trigger was the perfume one time and the other was the air freshners that were in the office. What can I do about looking for employment if I can't be around "smell Issues"? Are mirgraines considered a disability? I need help...Please...

Dear Kah64 -

Many people have succeeded in getting disability income for Migraines. We have a number of articles you can read on the topic. Take a look at: Disability Benefits: SSI & SSDI. You need to be able to show, with medical evidence, that you cannot perform your prior job or any other job due to your Migraines, and it can take a long time to get approved.

If you can deal with the smells long enough to get the job, you can also get accommodations for your Migraines under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). This might be helpful: Migraines, Perfume and the ADA.

Good luck to you!
