Q: I start with jaw and teeth pain and it progresses into very nasty headaches any one else?

I have these headaches that start on my right side with jaw, gum and teeth pain than my eye starts to twitch I have numbing on my right side of my face. Auras and eye pain. My temple and scalp becomes very tender live my veins and nerves are on over drive. I get stabbing pain that makes me want to bang my head against the wall if that makes any sense because they are so painful. The pain starts and runs to the base of my skull and runs up the back of my head and you can't touch my scalp. The base of my scalp swells and nothing helps my pain. My ears get a full feeling.  And my stomach tops it off. This headache has different degrees and can go from a 10 to a 100. I have learned to live with these except the really bad one and than I am down for the count! I have tried every medicine possible. Have you ever heard of this headache?

Sincerely,

Margee Sims

Margee,

What you're describing could be any number of different head pain disorders. You really need to get to a doctor who can help. An actual headache and Migraine specialist is probably your best choice. Take a look at our list of Patient Recommended Specialists. It's easy to feel that you've tried every medication possible, but with so many options today, that's literally impossible. A true specialist should be able to diagnose you and help you find effective treatment.

Good luck,

Teri

I have been having the same problems for over three years. In high school I was diagnosed as having migraines; several days a week. My doctor prescribed Midrin and the migraines descreased in frequency. I hardly had them anymore until about two to three years ago. I have seen numerous doctors, dentists, etc. I have been told that I have TMD/TMJ and have worn bite guards, seen an oral surgeon; you name it. I was taking so much ibuprofen, vicodin, goody's, etc. that my kidneys got really messed up so I had to quit all that. Just recently I saw a neurologist who suggested that it could be trigeminal neuralgia. (migraines) The trigeminal nerve runs down the side of your face close to your jaw bone and down your neck. I have taken oral disentegrating migraine medicaton and it seems to be very effective. I have a follow up appointment next week with my doctor. She says that if Maxalt is helping, then it is very possibly that the issue is vascular. Please let me know if you find out anything else.
