Q: need information on migraines with blindness, nausia but without headache

I am very upset with the doctor treating my friend.  What started my search is when a doctor said it might be in her head and he was serious.  I'm not a doctor but I would think they would do some kind of process of alimination or at least tell her types of food and or meds that would trigger a migraine.  None of this has been done.  I am searching for answers for her.  I understand that everyone is different and I am just looking for info to find her the help she needs.  She has had migraines without headache since she was little.  Once a month for as long as she can remember.  She is 25 now.  Once a year she has a ceasure.  She just had a seasure and it was just 6 months after this time.  She also has nasua but has a problem throwing up and can not even force herself too.  She says that it is like somthing blocks it in her chest.  I'm wondering if all these could be related. I have red about Retinal Migraine.  She lives in RI and there are no migraine specialists here.  I just read about a clinic called NECH, New England Center of headache but I read that a headache is just a symptom of some migraines (which she does not have, she has pain in her eyes nasua and blindness) and a migraine is a disease. What type of specialist should she have look at her?  Name, address and phone number would be great. Maybe someone to talk to about this that can lead us in the right direction.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Hi SuretoShine,

NECH is on our Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists and a wonderful center. Your friend would do well to call there.

NOW, clearly Migraine is NOT all in your friends head as you said. It is a genetic neurological disease thought to be caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics. That doctor is just wrong, and she can feel free to find another doctor, like a Migraine specialist, who knows about Migraine disease. Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? is a good article for your friend to read and see how treatment should be.

Good luck

Nancy
