Can the symptoms of an ocular migraine last for more than a month in duration?
I am a 43 yr. old white female, married, mother of three. I have been to three doctors since April 15, 2008 trying to explain the blurred spot, that is still in my right vision field. I have suffered from migraines for twenty-two years. I have had an ocular migraine in the past, which always went away within a day and my normal vision was returned. However, this time I am still having difficulty seeing. I have had an mri which showed a lesion in the periventricular white matter. I have seen a retinal specialist who said my eye is healthy. At the time when the vision loss first occured, my son noticed that my pupil stayed dilated and my left eye would contract and dilate normally around light.
I just want to know if it is possible to have a residual migraine last this long?
Hi Teresa,
Retinal Migraine is an actual Migraine diagnosis, while ocular migraine is not. Retinal Migraine symtpoms can include, in addition to the headache, twinkling lights, areas of decreased or lost vision and temporary blindness. However, most of the symptoms resolve themselves.
A full eye exam with an ophthalmogist may be in order to rule out other conditions.
Good luck
Nancy
