Q: MRI stopped migraines?

I have 3 to 4 migraines per month. They last 72 hours each. I had an MRI a couple of years ago and didn't have a migraine for 7 weeks afterward. I know this may be simply a coincidence, but that is the only time in the last 41 years that I've gone more than a couple of weeks without a migraine. I'm curious if anyone else has had the same result from an MRI?

Hi bbmac,

You're right it was coincidence. Given what we know about the mechanisms of Migraine and the brain MRI's cannot stop a Migraine is progress.

Good luck

There are studies being done on magnets/magnetic fields to stop migraines.  There is a device that is trying to come to market within the next couple of years that uses magnets/magnetic fields held up to the back of your neck for a short time.  Those in the trials have said it has worked for them.  It is a pretty big machine, not something you could carry in your purse, but probably in a backpack.

Wow, that's very interesting. Thank you for sharing that!

I'll be on the lookout in case the device becomes available.

Best,

I Googled to find it again and here is the site for it: www.eneura.com  It looks to be still pending FDA approval, as it isn't available yet.

Yeah, it was submitted to the FDA over two years ago, and they've been sitting on it. Aggravates the daylights out of me.

I've seen and held one of them, but since it's not approved yet, wasn't allowed to try it. I've been waiting for this for years now, literally.

That is crazy that it is taking that long!  I've worked for a medical device company and we got FDA endorsement a whole lot faster than that.  I hope it will be endorsed soon!

Is there anyway she can get the relief through strong magnets?  Anything is worth a shot!  I was worse with an MRI, but I believe it was the noise.  If you can find something to help you...go for it!!!

I don't know, but one of my Google results when looking up the device's Web site was a site selling a set of magnets you attach to different spots on your head to stop migraine.  I have no idea if that would work.  I would be cautious using magnets on one's own without knowing what one is doing.  Magnets are powerful.

(And, of course, stay away from magnets if you have a pacemaker or other implanted device!)

Maybe tell a doctor about it and let the doctor help.  Sometimes doctors will try anything to give you relief and he/she can help you do it in a safe manner.
