Hey Karen,
I had my first nerve block injections 3 weeks ago. My doctor recommended doing them every two weeks for 3 sessions. I didn't really get relief from them, but that is why they recommend doing them on 3 separate occassions (for longer results)
I actually went through a big ordeal of ER trips this week because I physically felt the blocks wearing off - which led to a very bad migraine. I don't think that this happens to most people who recieve the blocks though. Everything I read prior to the injections was very positive. You can't know how long they will last until you try b/c it's different for everyone.
Also - I thought that it would just be one injection. I actually recieved 8 separate injections in my head, neck and shoulders. It's not too painful (not for anyone who knows the pain of regular migraines)
I'm debating whether or not to go back for more (following my doc's advice). I would say that there's not much to lose and everything to gain. I'm glad I tried them even though I don't think they worked. One more thing to cross of the list of solutions.
Hi, I also have severe migrains and also had injections (occipital nerve blocks)some good things to know are: (PLEASE REMEMBER, I AM NOT A DOCTOR) Steroid injections interfere with some bloodwork results and you should be sure that you do not have or get primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency from too many steroid injections. I had an ACTH test with poor results and will not get another injection. They worked temporarily for me and are the perfect solution for many/most people. These are just a couple of things to consider depending on what your injections consist of. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL, please do not take this message as your deciding factor it's just that there are reasons why some people should be a bit more careful with steroids than others. I believe it is worth discussing with your Dr. I brought it to my Dr. attention, thats how I learned about my insufficiency. Good luck!!
