Topics:Migrane or Sinus Headache

Some timeI feel I might have been having sinus headaches because the pain is pinching and it starts from the side of the nose , it eventually turn into a the regular migrane. But when I discussed with my nurologyst his answer was that I should not get Sinus because of sleep disorder or being hungry which are the main causes of my migrane . How do we distinguish between the two weather its is sinus headache or  migrane . Should I ask the doctor to try something for allergies .

Thanks

Hassan

Shassans,

Unless there's a sinus infection, sinus headache is very rare. More than 90% of what people think are sinus headaches are actually Migraines. Take a look at Sinuses Giving You a Headache? It's Probably Migraine.

During a Migraine, the trigeminal nerve (TN) becomes inflamed. One branch of the TN runs near the sinus cavities, making it feel like a "sinus headache." You can see that in this illustration -- Pathways of Migraine.

Hope this helps!
Teri
