Mags,   Your doctor is mistaken. Sorry.   Let me take a crack at the brief explanation you need. Triptans are selective serotonin receptor agonist, "selective" being the key word here. Each of the six triptans binds to a different combination of serotonin receptors. Thus, we react differently to them. It's not common, but possible, to try all six and find only one that works for you.   Would I change doctors? Maybe. It depends on a few things:   •  If you tell him he's mistaken about the triptans, will he learn?   •  Is this the first problem you've had?   •  Are you making progress in your treatment with him?   Tell you what. We have a quiz that may help you -- Is Your Doctor Right for You? If you decide to change doctors, , it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.   Hope this is what you needed! Teri
