Q: Two months ago, I started seeing flashing jagged lines...

These flashing jagged lines move across my visual field for about 30 minutes at a time.  I had this occur 6 times in 10 days then nothing for 3 weeks.  Then I've had one a week for the last two weeks.  I don't get a headache following this.  I do, however, have a stiff neck, jaw and tooth pain.  I also have lots of knots around my shoulder blade on the same side.  I have been more stressed that usual.  Does anyone else have symptoms like these?  What is this considered?  My family doctor tells me they are migraines with aura - even though there is no headache.  My chiropractor doesn't label them, just adjusts me and takes notes on when they occur.  He also started doing acupuncture on me.  While the needles are in, it seems to help.  But, the effects don't last long.

They could be migraines or they could be the result of myofasical syndrome.  Have your doctor send you to physical therapy for it.  It may help!

There is something called Silent Migraine that is a migraine with all the symptoms except the pain.

Here's a great article by Teri Robert on the subject that might help: http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/types-of-headaches-38003-5.html

If these episodes are very troubling or impact your work day/ability to function, you may want to talk to your doctor about any options you may have for abortive medications like triptans.
