Q: I NEED HELP FINDING A DR NEAR COLUMBUS, GA FOR MY HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINES THAT HAVE BECOME OUT OF CONTROL.

LOCAL NEUROLOGIST SAID TO COMPLICATED FOR THEM TO HANDLE! 10 "SEIZURES" IN 2 MONTHS FROM MIGRAINE

Diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines 2 and 1/2 yrs ago, have been controlling them with topamax and lexapro for prevention of the migraines and then klonipin and hydrocodone at sign of the aura to if i feel a seizure coming on. In the past 2 months , I have had 10 seizures and 3 hospital visits. I can't work and had to medically withdraw from school even though I had a 4.0  because my short term memory was becoming such a factor and I suffer at least 3 migraines a week! Luckily not all hemiplegic! I need help finding a doctor near Columbus, Ga. to help me because the local neurologists said my condition was too complicated for anyone here in town and they treat you horribly at the local hospitals because they won't take the time to take 5 seconds to look it up on a computer! My primary care physician is trying to get me to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fl. but I insurance denied it the 1st time cuz the BCBS dr said they believe a dr can help me. Really!? THEN please by all means will someone please please tell me where this person is because myself and my family want to get our lives back!!!

Unfortunately, there's really not much I can do to help you with your battle with your insurance company. A phone call or letter from your doctor might be helpful. If your insurance is through an employer, talk with somone in human resources. They may be able to help. The problem is most likely the limitations of your policy that are determined by the level of coverage that's been purchased. Sometimes, they can be overridden with extra information from your doctor. Sometimes, an employer can help with an override.

Welcome again,

Teri

I had the same issue, but after a second hospital admission in two months, and the local migraine specialist telling my family that he could no longer help me as my condition was too complicated, my employer and physician talked with the insurance company.  Even though the Diamond Headache Clinic (DHC) in Chicago was not covered under our plan as an "in-network" provider, the employer made a special exemption and covered at 100%.  They finally understood they were going to save money in the long run....I have had great care at DHC.  Good luck..ang
