Why do I get a headache when I lie down? This happens almost every night.

Topics:Headaches when lying down

I have been getting headaches for over 20 years, although they have been getting much worse over the last few years.  They have been labeled as headaches and migraines over the years.  I know that many of them are probably stress related.  However, I have been getting a headache almost every time that I lie down these past several months, and the doctors that I have seen don't seem to want to address it.  I have had MRI's and EEG's in the past due to my headaches and also 4 seizures that I have had over the last few years, but nothing has shown up.  I am exhausted physically and mentally.  Can you give me some advice.  Thanks!

Cindy,

Getting a headache whenever you lie down is a tough one. The only thing I can think of is that it might be related to cerebrospinal fluid pressure.

If the doctors you've seen "don't want to address it," it's time to fire their sorry butts and find one who WILL address it. Slap them to the side and move on. It may well be time for you to seek care from an actual headache and Migraine specialist. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
