No, a Migraine doesn't show up on an MRI. There are no diagnostic tests to confirm a diagnosis of Migraine. Migraine is diagnosed by reviewing your and you family's medical history, evaluating your symptoms, conducting a full examination, and ruling out other causes for your symptoms. As your doctor said, the MRI, at this point, is to rule out other causes of your symptoms.
Some Migraineurs, more often those who have had Migraines for a significant length of time, may have white matter lesions on the brain that show up on an MRI. You can read more about that in Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease?
Hope this information helps!
Welcome again,
Teri
