I see Depakote just went on generic. I see it is also for depression and manic depression. I also suffer from depression. I am on topamax, 200 mg a day. My migraines are coming back again quite frequently and am afraid to tell my neurologist because I dont want to let him raise it again. I don't like the side effects of the drug. I am getting alot of neuralgia in my feet from it.  Also a lot of memory loss. Is there a drug (like depakote) that he can ADD to topamax, instead of taking me OFF topamax? I hate to quit taking it, or having to wean off one to take something else for fear I'll end up in the hospital. I often get the migraines in the back of my skull and they are so painful they are excruciating. He's run me through every test imaginable.

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Hi Linda,

A discussion with your doctor about your increased Migraine frequency is in order sooner rather than later. Only he can help you with medication changes. In our article:  Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up! we list over 100 medications that can be used to treat Migraines. Feel free to print it out and talk about different options with your doctor.

If you want to feel better the only way is to be open with your doctor. The more he knows, the more he can help you.

Good luck

Nancy
