Q: Cluster headaches

I was diagnosised years ago with cluster headaches. Is that the same as mirgrains? I have light sensitivity, nausea and vomiting, dizziness and trouble focusing. Is the treatment the same as Migrains? The last one I had lasted 3 days. The medication I was given did not work . I finally was put in a car and taken to my doctors office where I recieved a shot and I finally got over it.

Carol,

No, Migraines and cluster headaches are very, very different. Treatments tend to overlap somewhat, but can also be quite different. If you had one that lasted for three days, it wasn't a cluster headache. A single cluster headache doesn't last that long.

You need to work with your doctor about how to tell a cluster headache from a Migraine attack and what threatments to use for them. Here is some basic information you can discuss with your doctor:

Cluster Headaches - The Basics

Migraine Without Aura - The Basics

Migraine With Aura - The Basics

Hope this helps,

Teri
