Dear Fred -

Of course you should check with your doctor, but SSRI drugs are not listed as a problem in the drug interactions information for Migranal. You can find more information in Serotonin Syndrome.

Hope this helps!

Hi Fred,

Wow for any drug interactions perhaps your best source is your pharmacist (you can even talk to another one get a second opinion).Laughing  Really  Pharmacists are usually GREAT to talk to and if by chance one is isn't you can get another one!   Im sorry I cant be more specific but I have a headache (wow thats news, NOT) right now. I guess it was waiting to for me to get on line to yell PHOTOPHOBIA!   Take care and please share the answer with us on line.  Only migraine sufferers have walked in your shoes so Keep us updated.

Fred,

None of the Migraine abortive medications -- Migranal, DHE-45, or the triptans (Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc.) -- are contraindicated with SSRIs. They all carry warnings to watch for specific symptoms of serotonin syndrome and report them to your doctor, but the warnings don't contraindicate taking them.

Megan gave you the link for an article that explains this in more detail.

welcome again,

Teri

Hello.  I am more concerned why you are worried abuot this? Please don't be offended, but is that combination having a side effect that you are concerned about???  I know that when my headaches/migraines first started they immediately thought mood stuff or depression and when I had SSRI's they made things worse, like more manic behavior, frantiic concentration, not ssitting still, etc... what is interesting is that new studies are showing a verydirect link between migraines/chronic refractory or like mine, intracteable daily migraines, -- but of course depression and ALL that means is connected.  I know I wasn't depressed until after my headaches slowly dismantled my life.... best of luck - CT

Christian,

This was a GOOD question.

Please read the link I posted in reply to this question. Those of us who take SSRIs with Migraine abortve medications do need to be aware that serotonin syndrome exists so that we can report any symptoms of it to our doctors.

It's always best to research medications before we take them. Since there's a very strong warning about triptans and SSRIs, it's very reasonable and logical to want to know if it applies to other Migraine aborvites, including Migranal.
