My husband has just been prescribed Nortriptyline (50 mg) for migraines after suffering only one migraine. Does that make any sense to anyone? From what I can see, it's something for chronic migraine sufferers.

Hi jgc,
I'm curious if you went to the doctor with your husband? This is a common medication for Migraines and other conditions as his doctor sees fit. Is your husband concerned about the dose? Does he take other medications that may interact with it?
Maybe your husband has had more than one Migraine attack but just hasn't told you so you wouldn't worry about him. Are you sure he has just had one Migraine? Migraine is more than just a headache, in fact, there are a whole host of symptoms that can include everything but a headache and still be a Migraine!!
This article, Anatomy of a Migraine is a great resource for anyone who has Migraine disease or loves someone with it.
Good luck to you and your husband,
Nancy
I certainly wouldn't start a Migraine preventive medication if I'd had only one Migraine.
Chronic Migraine is Migraines on 15 or more days a month. It's recommended that we talk with our doctors about preventive treatments if we have three or more Migraines a month.
Hope this helps.
