-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-     Let's talk a bit about medications. Maxalt isn't a preventive medication. It's a Migraine abortive medication. Abortive medications work in the brain to stop the Migrainous process, thus stopping the pain and other symptoms.   The ideal regimen has three types of medications: 1) Preventives to reduce the frequency and severity of your Migraines. 2) Abortives to stop the Migraines you do get. 3) Rescue medications to use on the infrequent occasions when the abortives fail.     You can read more about this in Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference?   I have no way of knowing which doctors in your area prescribe what type of medications. Sorry. What I do know about your area is that Dr. Roger Cady is in Springfield, and he is excellent. If you want to contact him, you can find his contact info in our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. Please keep us posted?   Good luck, Teri
