Q: isymptoms of migraines phonophobia, photophobia, nausea,or vomiting to have them

I have headaches all the time. most of the day some times. I get waken up by them. there is a pounding sensation behind my eyes and it grows . nothing I take makes them go away completely and I don't get photophobia I think also load sounds make them hurt more, photophobia a little , no nausea, or vomiting. I can handle them to some point without meds. but when they are bad I do take 600 to 800 mg of motrin.

Hi kenny,

Migraine is much more than a headache -  it is a genentic neurological disease thought to be caused by overactive neurons and genetics. So it wouldn't be uncommon for someone to have the symptoms you describe during a Migraine. Please continue to read Anatomy of a Migraine for information on the four phases of a Migraine and their symptoms.

Anyone having three or more Migraines a month needs to be talking with their doctor about prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.

If you're taking Migraine abortive meds such as triptans or any kind of pain med more than two days a week, a big part of your problem may well be medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this. If you're in an MOH situation, nothing you take is going work, neither prescription nor "natural" medications nor over-the-counter. If that's the case, you need to work with your doctor to stop the medications causing the problem.

Good luck

Nancy
