I started last fall by getting my first flu shot.  I spent all fall with drainage down the back of my throat and getting I guess what I call migraines with aura weekly.  It then quit around December.  Then this February I got a cold and it all started up again.  It has been pretty much a weekly experience, and occassionally 2 times a week.  I have tried a Z-pac which only seemed to make my sinuses hurt.  Also tried Mucinex, Claritin, & Sudafed. I dont feel like I have a cold now...just stuffy at times and up until the past week...a slight headache most days.  Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Hi annoyed,

I'd be annoyed too if I was getting aura for that long!  We have information on Migraine with Aura you can find HERE. But having said that, I am not suggesting that is the type of Migraine you have, only a doctor can do that and I am not a medical professional. What I can do is provide you with information (and support) you could take to your doctor and for your own purposes.

If we take certain OTC and/or prescription medications more than two to three days a week we can unwittingly create another problem called medication overuse headache (MOH) formerly called rebound. The only way to stop MOH is to stop the offending medication. For more information continue reading: Medication Overuse Headache - When the Rememdy Backfires. One other problem may occur with taking certain medication too frequently is Transformed Migraine.  We have inforamtion on this condition in this article: Transformed Migraine - Risk Increased by Some Medications.

The best is to check in with your doctor, have a full exam and make sure everything is ok. If your doctor isn't listening to your concerns, then it is time to move on. We have a quiz to see if you are working with the right doctor. Is Your Doctor Right for You?

I hope this information helps.

Good luck

Nancy
