Q: I have suffered from migraines for 20 years and am quite debilitated. I have tried nearly everything and am considering trying a craniopath. It is expensive. Am I just throwing away money?

I am a 48 year old female with a strong family history of migraine.  I have suffered from migraines for the past twenty years and over the past three years the migraines have gotten worse to the point where I am quite disabled.  I am always in pain and cannot get out of bed two to three times per week.

I am under the care of a neurologist, an ENT specialist to treat the accompanying Merniere's, a gynecologist, and an allergist.  I have tried acupuncture, biofeedback, brain-music therapy, aromatherapy a natureopath, a chronic pain clinic, medically induced menopause, magnets, and I'm probably missing a few.  I have been on every type of food sensitivity diet known to mankind.....  I have been to dentists, opthomologists and every specialists I can think of.

Yesterday I saw a craniopath who is certain he can cure me; but, of course, my insurance won't cover it.  He said all of the right things, but I am afraid that I might be buying some very expensive snake oil.  Has anyone tried a craniopath?

Hi Issmdk,

The only doctor I didn't see you mention is the expert in Migraine and headache disorders - a Migraine specialist! The thing is many neurologists say they are headache specialists, but that really isn't the case. They treat so many different conditions like MS, stroke and epilepsy it is hard for them to be an expert in one area. A Migraine specialist is just that -  an expert in one area- Migraine and headache disorders. That's all they treat all day, every day. It it may make all the difference in the world. Take a look at Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Have you kept a Migraine diary? If not, try it, it may be very helpful and we have a free downloadable one you can see on this page,  Your Migraine and Headache Diary.

I hope this help, let me know what you think.

Nancy

Nancy's suggestion of seeing a Migraine specialist is the best suggestion we can offer.

In addition, I want to mention that nobody can "cure" you. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease for which, at this time, there is no cure. If someone says they can "cure" you, the best thing you can do is run the other direction.

I've had Migraines for 50 years. By working with a Migraine specialist, I now have the disease well enough managed that I get fewer than a dozen Migraines a year. To me, that's the next best thing to a cure.

Welcome again,

Teri
