Hi bonnie071,
Have you mentioned that you are taking black cohosh to your doctor? It is important that he know what you are taking in addition to any prescription medications, because even though these "natural" substances were mankind's first drugs, and they still act as drugs in our systems. They have potential side effects and warnings too. They should be discussed with your doctor before trying them.
There are some dietary supplements that work well for some people to prevent Migraines, but not one "natural" product I know of that has a high success rate for aborting Migraines in progress. You can get rebound from some of the "natural" substances too - feverfew for example.
Please remember that these "natural" substances were mankind's first drugs, and they still act as drugs in our systems. They have potential side effects and warnings too. They should be discussed with your doctor before trying them.
For Migraine prevention, talk with your doctor about Petadolex, Coenzyme Q10, Vitamin B2, and magnesium. The studies on acupuncture have been mixed, but it might be worth trying.
You might be better off talking with your GP, or GYN about your hormonal fluctuations. Video: Migraines and Hormones and
Role of hormones in causing Migraines?
I hope this helps,
Nancy
Hey bonnie, it's Nancy again.
I did want to let you know I saw the subject heading, or more correctly, that the topic was Migraines. That's why I gave you the hormone and Migraine links at the bottom of my first answer to you.
I know you feel "sickish", but that really isn't enough information for us to direct you in one direction or the other. Your topic is Migraine - are you "sickish" from a Migraine attack and if so, could you relay some of those symptoms. Or are you more "sickish" from menopause? Or both? See what I mean?
I'd love to hear back from you
Nancy
Hi bonnie,
Could you do me a favor and not use all caps when you type? I'm not sure if you know this, but when you use all caps it as if you are yelling at the person in cyber-land, and it will be much easier for everyone to read your questions and answers.
I'm certainly not going to contradict what your doctor has told you to take. I can give you information from a sister site here on HealthCentral called MyMenopauseconnection.Com;
Black Cohosh for Hot Flashes: Miracle Herb or Hogwash... Hard to Know
You tell me if you think it is good after you read the article. And are we talking about Migraines, or menopause symptoms?
Hope this helps
Nancy
