Can migraines be associated with seziure like activity?

When I have a migraine I will have what the Dr's call a "spell". This is because they don't have a diagnosis. I will go into a "comatose" state. I am not able to talk or move. I can hear but I can't respond. My heart rate drops my blood pressure drops. According to tests and dr's I'm not having a seziure. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? Please help.

Without knowing all of your medical history, I would suggest you get the opinion  of a neurologist.

TIA (mini strokes) can present with a headache as severe as a migrane.  I don't mean to scare you but if it were me having those symptoms, I would certainly want to rule this out.

Good luck and God bless.

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Friday, October 30, 2009

Hi GaDawgfan,

Sometimes, and we have a question in our Ask the Clinician section answered by Migraine specialist Dr. Krusz and Teri Robert about this topic. Take a look at this question: Can a migraine cause a seizure in a person that does not have epilepsy?

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Good luck

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
