Q: Can migraines be connected to having seizures. Even if a MRI and EEG comes back clean.

I have had 2 seizures since november 2008. Each time i have had a seizure I have experinced a very bad headache and stomach aches. I have never been told I have migraines. I have had MRI & EEG. Both tests came out good, nothing showing of a seizure. I'm on a generic of keppra for the seizures. My dr said he doesn't think a migraine could be triggering my seizures. I was just curious what you think.

thank you

kris,

It's not unusual for Migraines and epilepsy to be comorbid, which means that a person has both, but neither causes the other.

It's also not unusual for seizures to cause a headache and some nausea.

There is a form of seizure that can be caused by a Migraine aura, but the aura occurs before the seizure.

Be aware that Migraines aren't "bad headaches." Migraine is a genetic neurological disease. Is there any history of Migraines, "sick headaches," or sinus headaches in your family?

We really can't offer an opinion. That should be done only by a doctor who can review your medical history and examine you. You would do well to look for a neurologist who specializes in seizure disorders.

Good luck,

Teri
