Q: Prozac and Topamax

I am already taking Prozac for the prevention of migraines.  Can  you take Topamax at the same time?

Thanks

Julie,

The one potential interaction note that I found for Topamax and Prozac was to monitor for central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects.

You really need to ask your doctor this question. There are factors to be considered in addition to possible interactions between these two medications -- any health issues/conditions you may have, and ALL other medications you are taking including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements, etc.

Good luck,

Teri

I took Prozac with Topamax for more than 3 years. I did just fine on it - but, everyone is different. Did you ask your doctor? I'm no doctor, so please ask him/her about the combination of any drugs you're taking that's the safest route.

I have been off Topamax due to extreme weight loss and kidney stones - onto yet ANOTHER preventative. Good luck with the Topamax!

Hello

I am having terrible daily migraines even on Topamax(used to work but not anymore) and I also have kidney stones since last year now...ouch.....sooo, they want to switch me to Neurontin but I am scared. I am curious if you were changed to it too, or what else? I am so desperate at this point. Cannot function anymore, afraid to get fired etc....

tks,

anna

I was on Keppra for a while (no good), then onto Verapamil (again, no good) I am now in the waiting stage - waiting for Verapamil to leave my system completely, and my neuro is now starting me on Inderal - who knows....it's all a guessing game - the topamax was awesome - and I won't lie, I enjoyed being super skinny! - but the health risks were just too much.

We just keep plugging away, day after day, week after week, hoping and praying for the best. It's no fun - but it is the hand we were dealt...

How long were you on Topamax? I have been on for about 2 years and haven't had problems with kidney stones but I am getting worried. That is one of the side effects and I am thinking about stopping before I get them.
