Many people use omega-3 fatty acids to help their heart health, but a new study has found that the first effects of these fats are a short-term boost in blood fats and rise in the particles that cause clots. But experts say this finding should not affect the recommendations that people eat more oily fish or take omega-3 supplements, since there is ample evidence that they do reduce the risk of clots, stroke, and heart attack with long-term use.
