An experimental migraine treatment called telcagepant may offer hope for migraine patients who don't respond to older drugs. An online review in the Lancet of telcagepant found that it did not cause narrowing of the blood vessels--a side effect that can make it impossible for patients with heart problems to take triptans. Drugmaker Merck is planning to begin an U.S.-based clinical trial on the medication soon.
