Debilitating cluster headaches--often called "suicide headaches" by sufferers--can be eased by giving patients oxygen through a mask at the first sign of symptoms. In the first study to look at the treatment, British researchers studied 76 patients with either high-flow oxygen or normal air for 15 minutes. Afterward 78 percent of the patients who'd received oxygen therapy reported immediate relief, compared to 20 percent of the patients who received air alone.
