Treating migraines without weight gain

Researchers say Topamax can help prevent migraines and reduce migraine patients' need for "emergency" pain meds without causing the weight gain associated with other migraine drugs. In a new study, scientists tracked 468 patients who'd had chronic headaches for six months. They found that patients who took Topamax reported that they suffered fewer headaches per month, and they lost 3 percent to 4 percent of their body weight. Patients on other migraine-prevention drugs such as Depakote and Elavil sometimes gain as many as 40 pounds.
