New online pharmacy laws in effect

New rules governing online pharmacies went into effect in April 2009. The law is meant to stop delivery of controlled substances to people who have not been prescribed the medication, and is named for Ryan Haight, an 18-year-old who died after overdosing on a prescription painkiller he obtained on the Internet. The new regulations tighten qualifications for online pharmacies, and they require at least one face-to-face medical evaluation before a patient can receive a controlled substance prescription.  Read full story >
