Study links migraines with aura to brain lesions

Women who suffer from migraines with aura are almost twice as likely to show small brain lesions than women who don't have headaches, a new study has found. Researchers in Iceland found the so-called "silent" lesions on the cerebellum--which controls motor activities and balance--were found to be statistically significant only in women. Scientists say, however, that these lesions are nothing to worry about, since they are not linked to mental or motor function changes. But they believe the study shows how chronic migraines can actually lead to long-term changes in the brain.   Read full story >
