"Overcoming Headaches and Migraines" - A Review

(Page 2)

These are the triggers she mentions readers are likely to find in books and magazine articles. She does go on to say more about sleep issues as triggers, but doesn't go far enough given how much sleep issues impact Migraine as well as some other headache disorders. She also mentions "wet weather" as a trigger, missing the point that it's not the wetness that's the issue, it's the fact that the weather is changing. After days of rain, when the barometric pressure changes again, and the weather clears, many Migraineurs will find themselves in the throes of a weather-change-triggered Migraine.

She also fails to mention hormonal triggers other than estrogen drop prior to menses, yet there are many other hormonal issues that can be triggers -- other changes in estrogen levels, puberty, menopause, hormone replacement therapy, hormonal birth control; changes in levels of other reproductive hormones; changes in other hormones such as the thyroid hormones. Morrone does give a bit more information about triggers later in the book, but there are many potential triggers not discussed, especially other common Migraine triggers such as exertion / exercise, changes in altitude such as travel in mountainous regions or flying, crying, missing meals, crowded or stuffy rooms, and dehydration.

Mentioning medication overuse headache (MOH) might have been a point in Morrone's favor had she also warned her readers that, depending on what medication is causing the MOH, stopping it "cold turkey," as she did, could have serious consequences. For example, someone who has been taking a butalbital compound such as Fioricet or Fiorinal on a daily basis for an extended period of time could experience seizures if the medication were to be abruptly discontinued.

One more nail in the coffin for this book is chapter 12, "Navigating Through the Seas of Discontent." This chapter starts with the question, "What if you've tried everything and still you can't escape your headaches?" Allow me to dissect this question:

  • Vasculitis Migraine
  • Is Cranberry Juice A Migraine Trigger?
  • Cfl Bulbs And Migraines
  • Can Migraines Cause Vision Problems?
  • Migraine And Double Vision
  • Migraine Headache Sauna
