"Migraine and Other Headaches" - Review

(Page 2)

Key topics covered that are sometimes missed in "headache" books:

  • The difference between causes and triggers
  • The importance of family medical history
  • Spinal headache
  • The effects of headaches and Migraine on family relationships
  • Dealing with insurance companies
  • How to find a good doctor

Summary:

From two great minds comes this equally great book. The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) chose wisely to begin their quality-of-life series. On this site, we encourage patients to be as well educated about their health as possible. In our chat room one evening, Dr. Young told us, "An educated patient is a better patient. I'd far rather have a treatment partner than a dishrag." The AAN shares our philosophy. Bruce Polsky, chief executive officer, AAN Enterprises Inc., a subsidiary of the American Academy of Neurology stated, "The better-informed patient is often able to play a vital role in his or her own care. This is especially the case with many neurological disorders for which effective management of the disease can be promoted, and potentially enhanced, through patient education and involvement." Kudos to the AAN for launching this series, and my highest complements to Dr. Young and Dr. Silberstein for a job so very well done. Thank you.
