Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month: Educate and Advocate for a cause

  • Now that MS Education and Awareness Month (in the US) is coming to an end, it is time to think about what you can do moving forward to help improve your own life and those of others living with MS.

    • Become an Advocate

The National MS Society has a Government Affairs and Advocacy department which needs activists just like you to help encourage our legislators to pass laws to support the needs of our community.

Advocate for yourself.  Stand up for what you need personally and enlist the help of those around you.  Help to spread awareness so that understanding can develop in regards to how MS changes your needs and abilities.

    • Become an Educator

Just by sharing your experience and stories, you are helping to educate those who are seeking information on the topic.  I can't tell you how many times I notice that folks find my personal blog just by googling "multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis."  There is not much written on the topic of this particular combination of diseases, but we patients are finding each other online and this is simply because a few of us have written about it.

As we look forward in the next few months, we will honor another MS Awareness Month in May for our Canadian neighbors. We will also celebrate the 2nd Annual World MS Day on May 26, 2010

Everyday is MS awareness day when you live with MS, but the world can always use more understanding.  Let's help each other and help to encourage that understanding.
