Multiple Sclerosis Organizations and Resources
Looking into MS organizations and resources in the United Kingdom, Iʼve discovered that there are many services available to patients with MS. As this is MS Week in the UK, we should discuss various MS organizations in that corner of the world.
Multiple Sclerosis Society of the United Kingdom
The MS Society is the UK's largest charity for people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) - about 100,000 people in the UK. As a charity "we aim to support and relieve people affected by MS, to encourage people affected by MS to attain their full potential by improving their conditions of life, and to promote and publish results from research into MS and allied conditions."
The MS Society supports people affected by MS across the UK through a network of branches, regional committees and national bodies. You can locate the appropriate MS Society for your area by visiting the main Society homepage. Here is where you can locate organizations in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, English Regions and Branches and other National Support Groups.
While you are exploring the MS Societyʼs website, be sure to check out their Support Services page and their Chat options. I have found the Societyʼs downloadable publications aimed at patients and their families to be well-written and informative, as well as is their About MS section. You also might like their Research section.
Additional MS charities are located in North Ireland and Scotland:
Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre
The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) is a "proactive and innovative charity, passionately committed to supporting anyone affected by multiple sclerosis through access to unbiased information and advice. Our approach is to encourage individuals to make choices that are appropriate to their daily lives, empowering them to maximize their potential."
MSRC firmly believes that their role is simply to act as a conduit for people to share their thoughts, experience and knowledge. They believe that given sufficient information anyone who visits (the website, by phone, or in person) is capable to making their own decision which will be appropriate for their lives.
Check out the Latest MS News page or follow @MSRC on Twitter.
MSRC hosts a Message Board and Chat Room. And when you are in need of some humor, check out Squiffyʼs House of Fun and Laughter for Multiple Sclerosis! MSRC also offers additional services including patient support, 24-hour telephone counseling, the New Pathways bi-monthly magazine, and referrals to other agencies which may better serve your needs. The website alone offers a great deal of information which can be found by using the Google search box located on the sidebar.
