Respect Your Body: Making Minor Adjustments during Yoga Class

By Lisa Emrich, Health Guide Friday, October 14, 2011
Yoga is an excellent form of exercise.  Excellent for stretching muscles and joints.  Excellent for physical and mental relaxation.  Excellent for focusing the mind.  Excellent for learning to respect your body. We talked last month about how I was coming back to yoga after years ...

Lisa,

I am glad the blanke helped aleviate the pain, but I worried it might slip during certain poses or routines. Have you seen those knee pads used by construction or gardening workers? They work for other things, too, like yoga I imagine.

Yoga gives you discipline over body, mind, spirit, but I do not like that you feel pain. It is a bit awkward when learning, but then it just comes naturally to you - no (little) effort, much gain.

Now about you adjustments to certain poses. you go girl. If you cannot stand the poses for any reason, like pain or discomfort, it is likely you will not do them. That would be too bad. The whole idea of yoga is for you to insert it into your daily routine, with or without straight legs. you do it the way you can do it. It's your body, your mind, your spirit. You need to know it all.

Keep at it.
