Here's a fun one for ya!  My partner, BR, has advanced MS.  For the past 4 months he has been experiencing "phantom bowel movements."  His neurologist calls them "tactile hallucinations."  And as BR likes to say, hallucinations of any kind aren't as much fun when you're the only one having them.

Hey Steve, <shush> don't tell anyone.

I think I've had some of those "phantom bowel movements" as well.  Strange when you're sure of something which happened, but then it didn't.  Undecided  Then, when the real thing is about to happen and you're not yet close enough to the necessary facilities, but you can't really stop what's happening...... that's always fun.

Then, I completely left out the lovely task of manually removing fecal matter which won't exit on its own due to lack of muscular strength or coordination.  Hasn't happened to me, but a friend had to use a finger to perform that particular function.  Not so fun stuff.

Steve, I really appreciate you joining in the conversation and sharing the "tactile hallucinations."  Maybe we can get some group hallucinations going here sometime in the future.  Cool

Manual matter removal.  MMR for us in the know.  I think that was the most other-worldly conversation we had with his neurologist.

"I sit and sit and sit, and nothing happens."

"Have you tried using your finger to get the ball rolling?"

It was about that time that he referred all the symptom issues to BR's GP.

Tough subject.  Tough to hear.  Good to know.

I think I was constipated once, long ago.  I guess I was one of the lucky ones.  However, MS is telling my body to revisit this topic.  Thank you for covering this so clearly.

I've just read an excellent article on the blog, Living Day to Day with Multiple Sclerosis, written by Tara.  She addresses this issue and tells the reader what she does to try to get her body to function normally and efficiently.
