At my neorologist appointment yesterday I was placed on Gabapentin for the pain in my legs. I have only taken two pills, but am hoping it will help! Anyone have any luck with this medication? We discussed constant fatique but she said they dont like to treat that with meds in less it is absolutely neccessary. I dont know, I guess I will just have to keep dealing with that one. Somedays are better then others and I just pray that it gets better over time. It just stinks to be SO tired. Im sure you all know the feeling! I had posted about the welts I was getting from my Copaxone injections. She said this is not a allergic reaction and I can still take the medication and that this is pretty common. She suggested taking Benadryl. I am not icing the site afterwards anymore and that seems to help keep the swelling down. I guess that keeps the med from being localized to that area. So I have a little more info and advice then before my appontment so that always makes you feel good. Best wishes all. Karen

Hi Karen:
I'm sorry you're struggling with this. I took neurontin (a brand name for gabapentin) for awhile and found that it contributed to fatigue. It also wore off over time. Because of both those issues, I tried a couple of other drugs and am now on trileptal, which is working well for me. My issue is nerve pain down one side of my body.
Everyone is different and you will react differently to the medication. My advice is to stick with it for at least a month (unless you have a very bad reaction, of course) and give it a chance. If it's not helping by then, ask your doctor for something different.
I also took Copaxone for a couple of years and had the localized swelling, like bee stings. Not every shot did that -- probably every 3rd or 4th day. Some people recommend taking a tylenol or advil beforehand. I would ice my spot first to numb the area a bit.
Take care.
Thankyou for your advice. It sure helps to have someone who knows what im going through to talk to. My friends are great but dont truely understand what Im talking about when we talk about MS. I am glad you are doing well and you found a medicine you like. The gabapentin seems to be doing ok for me so far, I am giving it a fair chance. It doesnt seem to have any negative side effects. It may cause me to be tired but I wouldnt know im always tired anyhow. Thanks again
Karen
