It is sad to say, but the fact is that when one discovers he has a disease, one of the first things he learns about life thereafter is that no one really gives a damn.      You discover for the first time, or at least more clearly than ever before...

I saw a lot of my own experiences in your post. I suppose these things are common to most MS patients.

Two of my previous posts, "The MS Cure Myth" and "MS Brings on the Advice" address many of the same issues.

I think listening to crazy cures and usolicited advice just may be another item on the lost list of MS symptoms.

    We may be kindred spirits...

Yup, we're all kindred spirits in the MS club.

Yep, we're all right at home here.  Kindred spirits and all.

But you know, that humongous bottle of mangosteen juice (including juices of, like, a hundred other fruits as well) tasted pretty good.  The mother of one of my students gave that to me for Christmas last year.  When it came time that the bottle became empty, she told me that her mother (who was a physician in Korea and now practicing acupuncturist in a Korean clinic) is also a distributor.  Multi-level marketing it's called.

Tasty, certainly.  Expensive, absolutely.  On my shopping list, nope, sorry.

Oh, and btw, flax seeds are little and can be sprinkled on stuff.  But they're best if ground in a coffee bean grinder to release the oils within.  Not that I'd know anything about that.  Wink

Thankfully, I don't have to dodge too many well-meaning folks trying to help cure me.  But keep writing and we'll keep reading.

    Thanks

    Lisa

Ah, you've destroyed my illusions, or delusions as the case may be.  I was just sure a flax seed must be about the size of a 747.  Oh well.  I'll have to taste the mangosteen choice--I only have the pills.  My wife is also getting into multilevel marketing.  Scary stuff.  Wish I could talk her out of it.

I do understand what you are talking about unfortunately.  As well as having MS, I also have a son who has autism.  After his diagnosis it seemed all the snake oil salesmen came out of the closet to sell me cures.  And so when I got diagnosed with MS it was the same.  Well meaning friends talked about how we both could get cured by sitting in oxygen chambers.  I listen but then I just do my own thing.

Right now there is no cure.

But it doesn't mean that there are not some things which can help.  We just have to be wise to what those things are.

I like your posts.  They are genuine and tell it like it is.  Please keep sharing.  We are reading and listening.

Strangely enough, I also have a son with autism--and I know another person also with MS whose son has autism.  Weird, ain't it?

You do?  I would definitely be interested in knowing more about your situation.  There might be a trend here.  Autism is considered by some to be an auto-immune disease.  I do wonder what is up with that.

I am really glad to have met you here.  Small world isn't it?  Sometimes total strangers have the most in common.

    Merely,

It is a small world indeed.  With you and Anne and the many others.  Maybe we need to start a registry of sorts of folks with first degree relatives sharing MS/Autism.  I know my cousin would not be first degree, but if we expanded to auto-immune in general, I could contribute.

BTW, I believe that rwboughton is friends with our Xenu.  RWB, welcome again to Health Central.  You're adding alot here.

wow...small world indeed.  I am just amazed by the fact that I find myself so often getting more than I receive in help and connection and support.  I am happy to be here to hear the stories of others.  It does help me so much.

Yes, all these things seem to be mixed together, like some great noxious soup.  My son has diabetes (dx at age 5), autism (dx at age 12 or so), and also probably has schizophrenia or some other sort of mental illness (un-dx, but obvious).  His mother and grandmother have/had diabetes.  My uncle had Parkinson's dz.  My mother died of Alheimers dz.  The list kinda goes on and on.
