Only after I dropped a wad of cash at the store, did I read up about both products. On its website, Airborne claims to boost the immune system to help fight germs and viruses. Zicam, and its main ingredient zinc, are designed to do the same. Antioxidants and several other minerals also are utilized to strengthen immune system responses to invaders. I've never claimed to be extremely bright, and these days, my brain just doesn't seem to be able to synthesize important information together.

It wasn't until several people shouted at me - two weeks into my self medication with both of these products - that I realized the conundrum I was facing. My disease is caused by what could be called an overactive immune system. If nothing else, the system is at least very confused and misdirected (hmmm...sounds like a typical teenager). I was taking medications designed to make my misdirected and evil immune system even stronger, more virile, more ready to attack. The next time I talked to Brian, I told him what I had learned. He felt just terrible. He referred to himself as the Dr. Kavorkian of M.S. How would he know? Heck, I have the darn disease and I understand enough of what provokes it, yet I didn't put two-and-two together.

I have spent the five days since that conversation researching whether or not these products or other immune system boosters should be truly avoided by M.S. patients. I haven't found anything that confirms or denies a negative connection. Still, I'm not taking any chances. Team Sunshine needs a fighting chance on the field. I'm not about to help the other team work out, get stronger, and then kick my tail on game day.

Before I throw out the bottles of cranberry juice in my pantry, can someone tell me if there is a correlation - a proven correlation here?
