Hi everyone!! I just wanted to make a quick share with everyone that Post that Lisa Emrich shared about doing Rehabilitation for your body with MS is right on the money. Since having MS since 1995 I personally have tried swimming at pools, working out at a gym and doing lw-impact aerobics but some working for aswhile until the body said "Enough is Enough" and I couldn't handle some of the people rudeness at the pool anymore but I knew I had to do something.
Finally I found out what works for me was floor exercises to what I needed. It is true that you have to remind your muscles to "Wake up because I'm asking you to do this task so don't forget how it is done." It works like a charm. When I lose my balance and feel like falling I have enough strength now to try to grip onto to something near where I am falling so that my fall changes directions and I don't land either on my head backwards and pray I don't hit something on the way down.
Now after doing my workout pretty much five days week for how long I can last that day I have a better endurance with just doing a little housework and getting around better than I have in years. People look at me now from who I went to highschool with and can't recognize me not because of the disease because I look like a million bucks compared to what I was like at 18 years of age. Disease or no disease.
But one other thing I will mention is that when you have your timing of routine down and you miss say a week because of whatever the ms will kick you the ass and tell you to get moving girl. Keeping your muscles strong is one of the best thing to have in your life along with the MS.
I am now 41 and got ID'd at the Liquor Store when I picked some wine and the checkout girl asked my for picture ID. I go to her, she looked at least in her 50's, "You want picture ID from a 41 year old?" Needless to say when she seen my ID she shut up pretty fast and gave me my wine. My husband and I were laughing when we left the store.
Even having the disease between the MS Drug of Avonex and diet & exercise I feel alot better than those who having nothing at all wrong with them.
All I can say is if there ever was a silver lining this is one for me. It may take a very long time of persistence but well worth it. It helps you on the inside of your body and you get a benefit on the way you look on the outside of your body.

Lena,
Thanks so much for the thumbs up on my post. If there were just one thing which those of us with MS should do to protect ourselves and maximize our strengths, it is physical activity and exercise.
Before starting physical therapy, I really didn't know what I should do, nor how I should be doing it. The guidance has been priceless as is the built-in moral support. I am so thankful that I have this available to me. I wish that every person with MS had the same services available to them.
Now, I just need to tackle that 'eating well' aspect of health. I'm much too dependent upon carbs. You've given me some inspiration in that department. Thank you.
Lisa,
I am glad you listened to my advise about physical activity and I know what you talked about in the Carbs department. That is still my weakness not sweets, chips, etc. I don't even remeber the last time I had a chocolate bar, maybe 10 Years or more ago. For me it is the BREAD !!!!!!!!!!!!
