If a friend just found out he has MS, what would you tell him?

When I was first diagnosed, the National MS Society pointed me to a support group in my area. Most of us were newly diagnosed and we had more questions than answers. We treated symptoms and there were no online support sites.

I would tell my friend there are things to be grateful for. There are disease modifying drugs, support groups and online sites that can prove extremely helpful.

I think I would remind my friend that having MS does not change you from the person who you are. I would also ask that they stay positive and remind them of the value of a sense of humor.

I know there are different things. What would you say?
