Q of the Week: MS Emergency Plan in Case of Catastrophe

Vicki Health Guide
  • Do you have an emergency plan in the event of a catastrophe?

Whether at home or at work, there may be a time when you will need to get out fast. Remember the fire drills during school?  That is the type of thing I’m talking about. There may be a fire, a shooting, a flood, or a tornado.

Sometimes there is enough warning to respond. Sometimes there is little warning. What do you do now?

After the bombing at the World Trade Center in 1993, they realized an evacuation plan was needed especially for people with disabilities. Many companies developed one.

Although many, probably most, plans were forgotten on 9/11, the entire 9th floor Associated Blind staff escaped. They were on a low floor (9th), but that is still amazing.

People in a wheelchair, with an awkward gait, difficulty hearing or seeing, or  slow physical or mental capabilities have the right to be evacuated in case there is a reason. A plan should be in place, and I think practice would be a good idea, too. What do you think?
