MS and Caregiving -- Question of the Week

By Vicki, Health Guide Monday, July 30, 2012
July has five Mondays, so I asked Garry to fill in for this “extra” week. Here is his question -- What is something a caregiver should know to do a better job? I did not choose caregiving as a profession; rather, it came to me by circumstance. When Vicki’s MS had progressed to a poi...

Thank you for, Gary, for writing our fifth Monday Question of the Week!  We all appreciate it.  As always, it's a good one.

I know I am speaking for my Gary (yes, that's my husband's name....) but here goes:

As a caregiver, it would help to add the following: (my opinion)

1.  Keep a sense of humor at all times.

2.  Be flexible with mood and body changes. MS is so unpredictable and changes can happen daily, weekly, monthly....

3.  Be a good listener.

4.  Keep a sense of humor at all times.  (Yes, I know I said it already.  But for 25 years "my" Gary has kept a sense of humor when dealing with my MS)

I will let him see my response tonight.  If he has anything to add (or subtract!) I will let you know.

Best to all,

Cathy Cool

PS Gary said I did a good job of speaking for him!  I guess after 25 years we finish each other's sentences.  Awww.Wink

Thank you, Cathy, and especially for including Gary and for suggestions more specific to MS.
