In this series of articles about mobility aids, I have already covered walking aids. Now it is time to delve into the scary stuff — wheelchairs. The question of wheelchairs is with you from the beginning. When diagnosed with MS, one of the first questions that comes to mind is, "Will I be in a ...

Thank you for tackling this topic. I am anxious to read what other information you have for us on wheelchairs. Almost a year ago I wrote about my experiences in a chair. (http://mgerber.blogspot.com/2008/10/wheelchair-best-seat-in-house.html) What has changed since then is that today I am motorized. My suggestion is that if you can do it - get motorized.

As always,  I am looking forward to reading more from you.

Oh my Vicki, what a great article. At first as was afraid of the cane, then I was afraid of the wheelchair.  Now I thanlk the good Lord above for both.  It was a van thingie for me, I had to get over MYSELF real quick.  It was either use a cane of continue counting the cracks in the sidewalk, use a wheelchair in the afternoon or just stay at home.  I had some choices to make.  So I did.  I now have canes from around the world, that I use in the mornings, I have a wheelchair I use in the afternoon which I need to decorate because fatique takes over in the aftenoon.  I have foot drop in my left leg which if I try and walk in the afternoon I will fall, so the wheelchair is my saving grace.  Thank you Vicki for enlighting us!  sherry/smomdukesKiss
