I do not recommend self medication,I did it because I have to go to a certain hospital if I have an attack, its 50 miles and I can't drive that far and ,did not pay $5000 for a weeks stay.
I took Prednisone 40 mg. tablets once a day for 2 days, then split them in half taking 20 mg.doses for 5 days,i'm not day 5 now.
The last hospital visit they put me on a prednisone I.V. for one week.
I will not do this again until I discuss it with my Nuerologist this month.
I'm better,I can walk and my legs aren't as numb
My attack started about a month ago.
This is not something I recommend to anyone.
Just wanted to relate (my) experience.

Hi Mike,
For some attacks, there are neurologists who will prescribe a short round of oral steroids. The highest dose will be greater than 40mg of prednisone however and it will last for more than 5 days. Ask your neurologist about this approach. Also, there are several people I know who receive their IV Solumedrol at home. A nurse will come to the house to start the IV and the patient flushes the line himself. It is worth investigating for the next time.
That sounds advisable,I see my neurologist ,and 3 medication doctors on the 16th of this month,i'll check it out.
Good call,my doctor just called me on a sunday evening?
He said yeah,do what I did but don't do it again,he's gonna check me out when I see him this month.
7-10 days at 50-100 mg.but he's going to let me know for sure, and prescribe it himself.
I found this site by searching for the original thread,it worked for me,thanks.
