Cathy Health Guide July 11, 2012

I just started reading your posts a couple of months ago and very much enjoy what I read. You seem to have a great attitude and spirit and I like that a lot.

A few years ago I spoke with a gentleman named W. Mitchell who had been in a plane crash and a motorcycle accident, was paralyzed and suffered third-degree burns over most of his body, etc. etc. etc. What he said was that he used to be able to do 10,000 things and now could only do 9000 things and that's when he focused on. He is right and I share his perspective. Some people look at life as  a glass that is half empty or half full. I see my life as a glass that is overflowing and it is. Yes, there is much that I cannot do and yet there are 1 million things that I can do and am grateful for. I do get frustrated and sometimes wish that things were different, but wishing doesn't change things. What does change things is my attitude about my circumstances. There are people who feel sorry for me, but I don't. I have an incredible life and I wish that those people could have my life even if just for one day.

My answer to your question of the week is my answer to everyday challenges. Be grateful. Gratitude is the key to happiness in all situations and all circumstances.

I could go on and on, in fact I already have.

Thank you for your question of the week.

Thank you, Michael.  That was a wonderful entry.  You are so right about gratitude.  We need to all be as grateful as you are about what we DO have, and focus on that.  Great advice from someone whose inner strength helps him realize that every day is a gift.  Kudos to you, my friend.

Have a wonderful rest of the week.

      Hello Michael,

So what have you been drinking from?! I know, I know, from your glass that is overflowing, right?

I agree with you but personally am having a little more trouble getting my glass to overflowing. Still, my glass is half-full rather than half-empty. So at least I am not emptying my glass!

Thank you for the encouraging outlook,...

I'VE NOT BEEN ON HERE FOR SOMETIME NOW. JUST WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON APRIL 30TH. I'VE NOW BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SPMS ,CERVICAL RAD-MYLEOPATHY,LUMBAR STENOSIS,VESBULAR NEURITIS (THANKS TO THE CAR ACCIDENT) AND OF COURSE RA AND MILD SLE,ON'S ,TN STILL LEGALLY BLIND.

ITS BEEN HARD RIGHT BEFORE THE ACCIDENT 2 WEEKS BEFORE . I SAW MY OPTHAMOLGIST WHO TOLD ME THAT MY EYES HAVE WORSENED AND THAT I'M GOING TO LOSE MORE SIGHT BUT IN ALL HIS YEARS PRACTICING HE'D NEVER SEEN A MS PATIENT GOT TOTALLY BLACK . NOT SO COMFORTING. THEN WE WERE REAR ENDED BY A SPEEDER. STILL IN LEGAL BATTLE OVER THIS.

THE ACCIDENT SENT ME INTO AN MS AND RA FLARE.WAS LEFT WITH DAMAGE TO MY C-SPINE NARROWING OF THE SPINAL CORE THROUGHOUT SPINE WITH A BULGE INTO THE SPINE 3MM AT C6-7 .

I CAN'T EVEN WALL WALK A FEW FEET NOW. VERTIGO IS INSANE. THE MS FLARE LEFT ME WITH MORE LOSS OF FEELING IN FEET,LEGS,PART OF FACE AND WEAKNESS IN ARMS. THIS IS PARTIALLY DUE TO THE C-SPINE DAMAGE ALSO.

MY NEURO WANT ME TO TRY REBIF AND MY RHEUMY WANTS MY ON RITUXAN . NOT SURE WHAT I WANT TO DO . ALL THESE DMDS SCARY ME . DON'T WANT TO BE THE WOMEN IN THE BUBBLE. NOT BEING ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE FOR FEAR I'LL GET SICK.

DEPRESSION IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST PROBLEMS NOW. BUT I'M STILL OPTIMISIC I'LL BE ABLE TO ENDURE ALL THIS. I NOW USE A POWER CHAIR ALL THE TIME. HAVING BLADDER AND BOWEL TROUBLES IS VERY UPSETTING. THE FEAR OF HAVING TO CATH. IS A BIGGY FOR ME. TRYING OXYBUTIN FIRST TO SEE IF IT WILL HELP.

I DO HAVE SOME FAMILY SUPPORT . HOWEVER MY HUSBAND TEND TO PUSH ME TO MUCH . HE'S NOT ACCEPTING THIS TO WELL. HE ALSO USE TO WORK IN PT . FUNNY HOW THING WORK OUT. I'M JUST TAKING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME. TRYING TO FIND A HAPPY THOUGHT FOR EACH DAY. SETTING REASONABLE GOALS FOR EACH DAY. LIFE IS WORTH LIVE THE THE FULLEST NOT MATTER WHAT SHAPE YOUR IN . JUST SOMEDAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS.
