On October 31, 2004, I woke up with a terrible headache. When I got up out of bed to take some aspirin; my entire left side went numb and I lost my eye sight in my left eye.
After numerous tests, I was diagnosed with M/S. The day I was diagnosed was my 46th birthday.
At first, my family was very supportive. However, over time, their attitudes towards me changed. I no longer had the energy and/or the money to do the things I used to be able to do. I was no longer invited to family gatherings. One of my siblings has told me that she is tired of having to pick up her house before I come over, just because I am afraid I am going to trip and/or fall.
I had to sell a condo which I loved and lived-in for over 20 years because of the stairs.
I was told to retire on disability from a company that I had worked for since the age of 19. When the word got out that I had M/S, my co-workers started to "shun" me as if I had a contagious disease.
With all of this being said, I know I am a lot stronger person because of it!
I changed meds from Copaxone to Tysabri and I am very glad I did!
