Mutiple Sclerosis or Lyme??

By twebb Wednesday, September 28, 2011

I was diagnosed with mutiple sclerosis in Jan. 2008. Six months after the birth of my son. In 2009, had a spinal tap that said it was ms and guess my bloodwork test for lyme disease was negative. This disease had been very aggressive for me and none of the injectable ms meds worked for me, so after months of going downhill, I was put on tysabri, that did work for me. Also in 2009 found out that I had somehow gotten the rocky mountain spotted fever, so was treated for that.  Before the birth of my son, I noticed numbness on the left side of my face and had problems with swelling in my left knee, my right knee has been very stiff for many months. Also after a few months of doing sumedrol(steriods) they stopped working as far as lessing the symptoms I had at the time and always affected me opposite than others. I lost a lot of weight while I took them. So I wondered if the problem is lyme or mutiple sclerosis??

Hi twebb,

I dont' know the answer to your question whether your symptoms are MS or Lyme.  My mother had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever a few years before she developed Lupus.  That disease certainly seemed to contribute to her developing a connective tissue disease.

What do your doctors say about your newer symptoms in the knees?  Do they give any ideas on what you can try in order to alleviate the problems?

I wonder if you might not want to see a rheumatologist to have your knees (joints) evaluated.  The problems there might not be MS.

Please let us know how you are doing and what the doctor says.
